Having made it to the Carabao Cup semi-finals or final for three seasons in a row between 2014/15 and 2016/17, Liverpool have been knocked out at the third round stage in each of the last two years. \[[via TransferMarkt.co.uk](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/fc-liverpool/pokalhistorie/verein/31)\]

Both of those were against Premier League opposition, with [Chelsea winning at Anfield last September](https://www.skysports.com/football/liverpool-vs-chelsea/401814) and Leicester ending the Reds’ interest in the tournament the previous year.

Liverpool have lost their last four matches in this competition dating back to the 2016/17 season, having been [beaten in both legs of their semi-final against Southampton](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/efl-cup/startseite/pokalwettbewerb/CGB/saison_id/2016) in that campaign.

The Reds have [never played MK Dons in their current guise](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/liverpool-fc/bilanzdetail/verein/31/wettbewerb_id//gegner_id/991/saison_id//heim_gast//datum_von/-/datum_bis/-/day/0/land_id/0), having last played the old Wimbledon in a [Premier League match 20 seasons ago](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/liverpool-fc/bilanzdetail/verein/31/wettbewerb_id//gegner_id/991/saison_id//heim_gast//datum_von/-/datum_bis/-/day/0/land_id/0), although they [came up against AFC Wimbledon in the FA Cup in 2015](https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/30620966).

Jurgen Klopp made [eight changes to his team](https://www.skysports.com/football/liverpool-vs-chelsea/401814) for the Carabao Cup clash against Chelsea last year and these Liverpool fans on Twitter have called for some of the Reds’ lesser-used players, including Dejan Lovren and Xherdan Shaqiri, to feature against MK Dons:

> Great chance for the fringe players to start & we get to rest the key players. Origi, Shaq, Ox, Milner, Lallana, Gomez all 100% starters, plus Lovren (if still here), Naby (if fit).\
