# Liverpool: Fans defend Andrew Robertson after criticism over penalty against Napoli

**Liverpool defender Andrew Robertson has deactivated his Twitter account, with his former handle [@andrewrobertso5](https://twitter.com/andrewrobertso5?lang=en) now appearing as an account that doesn’t exist, as reported by [The Mirror](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/andy-robertson-appears-deactivate-twitter-20088589).**

Liverpool-focused Twitter channel [@AnfieldEdition](https://twitter.com/AnfieldEdition/status/1174254184897613824) told its followers that the 25-year-old had deleted his account on the social media platform.

The [Scotland international](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/andrew-robertson/profil/spieler/234803) conceded a penalty in the closing stages of the Reds’ [0-2 defeat to Napoli in the Champions League](https://www.skysports.com/football/napoli-vs-liverpool/report/420346) last night, a refereeing decision that his manager Jurgen Klopp subsequently condemned, as per [Sky Sports](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11669/11812686/jurgen-klopp-speaks-out-on-napoli-penalty-call-in-liverpool-defeat).

The [Daily Mail](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-7476813/Andy-Robertson-deletes-Twitter-account-fans-criticise-display.html) reported that Robertson had been the subject of stinging criticism from some Liverpool supporters on social media after the penalty was given against him, while [former Reds defender Mark Lawrenson](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/mark-lawrenson/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/175876) admonished the 25-year-old in his [BBC](https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/49735081) column for the “[lazy challenge](https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/49735081)” on Jose Callejon which led to the penalty.

The Liverpool left-back had been an injury doubt before the Napoli game, with [liverpoolfc.com](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/first-team/364898-reds-to-assess-andy-robertson-fitness-ahead-of-napoli-tie?utm_source=Social&utm_medium=TwitterWebsiteCards&utm_content=Digital&utm_campaign=LFCTwitterCards) reporting that he needed an assessment on his fitness yesterday after incurring a slight knock earlier in the week.
