The Spaniard is rumoured to have a release clause of around £70 million built into his contract \[[FanNation](https://www.si.com/soccer/liverpool/transfers/liverpool-contact-barcelona-over-star-release-clause)\], sparking rumours that [Liverpool](https://www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/football/liverpool-transfer-rumour-news-pedri-24285960) could make him the most expensive acquisition in the clubs history after the arrival of Virgil Van Dijk in 2018 \[[Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/fc-liverpool/transferrekorde/verein/31)\].

Enjoying a strong first season in La Liga, Pedri made 52 appearances for *La* *Blaugrana* in 2020/21 pitching in with 10 goal contributions; four goals and six assists \[[Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/pedri/leistungsdaten/spieler/683840)\].
