# Liverpool: Fans fume as Jurgen Klopp reveals Reds’ January transfer plans

**Many [Liverpool](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/premier-league/liverpool/) fans were left angry as The Times journalist Paul Joyce provided an update on Jurgen Klopp’s transfer plans.**

Via Joyce’s [Twitter](https://twitter.com/_pauljoyce/status/1347174327209369619) account, the German tactician suggested that it is “unlikely” that any new faces will come through the doors of Anfield in January, despite the Reds’ catastrophic injury crisis in defence.

Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez have both been ruled out with [long-term knee injuries](https://www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/football/liverpool-injury-news-van-dijk-23254586). Joel Matip has now been sidelined for three weeks, leaving Klopp with no established centre-backs to choose from.

Captain Jordan Henderson and Fabinho both started as the centre-back pairing during their [1-0](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/55463017) defeat to Southampton on Monday night.

Unsurprisingly, supporters were furious with Klopp’s response, with some suggesting that the season is virtually over already.

**“Then Klopp has failed this team. it’s as simple as that. That being said. I think he says it to hide the fact that something is being done behind closed doors, just like Jota last season. this team needs a Center back or it’s back to the good old “top 4. spot.”**
