# Liverpool: Fans furious as fitness update regarding Joel Matip emerges

**Many Liverpool fans have been slating defender Joel Matip once again after it was revealed he may not be fit to face Manchester United on Sunday.**

According to the [Mirror](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/liverpools-joel-matip-running-out-23307809)‘s David Maddock, the 29-year-old is running out of time to prove that he is fit enough to face their arch-rivals.

He added that the Cameroonian centre-back is only training in specifically-prepared sessions with the club’s physios, and is yet to train with the first-team with the clash just four days away.

This means that manager Jurgen Klopp could be, once again, without any established first-team defenders to choose from, with Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez ruled out for a significant amount of time due to [serious knee injuries](https://talksport.com/football/787753/joe-gomez-knee-injury-liverpool-jurgen-klopp-virgil-van-dijk/).

Unsurprisingly, supporters were incensed with the update, and once again, urged Klopp to sign a centre-back in January.
