# Liverpool: Fans gush over possibility of signing Renato Sanches

**Many Liverpool fans were thrilled with the idea of Lille midfielder Renato Sanches moving to Anfield.**

Canal Plus (via [GFFN](https://www.getfootballnewsfrance.com/2020/lille-president-gerard-lopez-on-the-brink-as-elliott-management-jp-morgan-come-calling/)) reported that the Ligue 1 outfit’s financial situation was looking bleak and may be forced to sell some of their most prized assets to balance the books.

[French outlet Le10Sport](https://le10sport.com/football/mercato/exclu-mercato-losc-liverpool-pense-a-renato-sanches-529908) previously revealed that Liverpool were one of the teams in the running for the Portuguese middle man, who has scored just once from seven league starts this season ([Whoscored](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/299450/Show/Renato-Sanches)).

Sanches is remembered for his short loan stint at Swansea City back in [2017](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/41080499) but failed to find the net from 15 appearances before returning to parent club Bayern Munich ([TransferMarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/renato-sanches/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/258027)).

Despite this, supporters were excited about the prospect of Sanches moving to Anfield, with Georginio Wijnaldum’s future still looking [uncertain](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-9060343/Jurgen-Klopp-urge-Liverpool-hierarchy-offer-Gini-Wijnaldum-new-contract-extension.html) with his contract due to [expire](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/georginio-wijnaldum/profil/spieler/49499) at the end of the season.
