# Liverpool: Fans gush over Thiago Alcantara against Manchester United

**Many Liverpool fans heaped praise on summer signing Thiago Alcantara and his performance against the club’s arch-rivals Manchester United.**

The 29-year-old made his [first start at Anfield](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/74939/MatchStatistics/Thiago) this season in what has been a frustrating campaign for the Spaniard since his [£20m](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/54199589#:~:text=Liverpool%20have%20signed%20midfielder%20Thiago,be%20here%2C%22%20he%20said.) move from Bayern Munich in September.

After contracting [coronavirus](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2020/sep/29/liverpools-thiago-alcantara-tests-positive-for-covid-19) at the end of that month, Thiago picked up a [knee injury](https://metro.co.uk/2020/11/30/thiago-alcantara-will-still-be-out-for-weeks-with-knee-injury-explains-jurgen-klopp-13677249/#:~:text=Thiago%20Alcantara%20is%20still%20weeks,resulted%20in%20a%20red%20card.) following a hard challenge from Richarlison during the Reds’ [2-2](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/54489179) draw against Everton.

Because of this, he has seen very little action – but the cameos he has made have received [widespread praise](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/liverpool-fc-transfer-rumours/liverpool-fans-praise-thiago-alcantara-champions-league-performance/) from far and wide, and this evening’s performance against the Red Devils was no different.

Unsurprisingly, his [quick thinking](https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/liverpool-fc-vs-manchester-united-live-stream-latest-score-premier-league-2020-team-news-tv-result-today-b900035.html), sharp movement and his eye of a needle passing excited the supporters and made their feelings clear towards him on social media.
