# Liverpool: Fans love evolving defensive partnership of Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez

**Liverpool fans have been showering Joe Gomez and Virgil van Dijk with praise after their side’s 1-0 win against Wolves on Sunday.**

The two centre-backs have been the focal point of the Reds’ winning streak in the Premier League as they sit top of the Premier League, [13](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league/table) points clear against Leicester City and [14](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league/table) ahead of reigning champions Manchester City.

Jurgen Klopp’s side are now undefeated in [50](https://sportstar.thehindu.com/football/epl/liverpool-unbeaten-in-50-premier-league-games-at-anfield-mane-goal-wolves-klopp/article30428284.ece) Premier League games at home, winning 40 and drawing 10, which is partly down to his team’s defensive capabilities.

Gomez, who has stepped in for the injured Joel Matip, has impressed many in recent weeks and did so once more against the West Midlands based outfit. He won [five](https://www.fotmob.com/livescores/3055931) duels, made [five](https://www.fotmob.com/livescores/3055931) ball recoveries and had a pass success rate of [91%](https://www.fotmob.com/livescores/3055931) (via FotMob).

He also made [nine](https://www.fotmob.com/livescores/3055931) ball recoveries and had a pass success rate of [90%](https://www.fotmob.com/livescores/3055931).

Supporters were in awe of the defensive pairing and made their feelings clear about them on social media.

> Been really impressed with Gomez lately. The defence has improved massively since he’s gotten his fitness back. Him and Van Dijk are easily the best centre back partnership in the league. Hopefully he can stay fit.

> Not enough people talk about our back line, mainly Van Dijk and Gomez with how fantastic they are each and every week! We were ripped on leaking goals and not being able to keep clean sheets! Now look at us! Both absolute superb players together 👌👏 [#LFC](https://twitter.com/hashtag/LFC?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw)
