# Liverpool: Fans not getting excited about Kai Havertz links

**Liverpool are among a multitude of clubs with an interest in signing Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Kai Havertz in 2020, according to German publication [Sport 1](https://www.sport1.de/fussball/bundesliga/2019/08/bayer-04-leverkusen-diese-klubs-wollen-kai-havertz).**

[This Is Anfield](https://www.thisisanfield.com/2019/08/liverpool-named-among-8-clubs-in-pursuit-of-e100-million-deal-for-kai-havertz/) relayed those reports on their website and Twitter channel ([@thisisanfield](https://twitter.com/thisisanfield)), claiming that the Reds are one of eight clubs chasing a deal in the region of €100m (£91.53m) for the 20-year-old.

According to [Sport 1](https://www.sport1.de/fussball/bundesliga/2019/08/bayer-04-leverkusen-diese-klubs-wollen-kai-havertz), Liverpool are joined in the race for Havertz by Bayern Munich, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Manchester City, Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal.

The midfielder has [scored in both of Bayer Leverkusen’s first two competitive games this season](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/kai-havertz/leistungsdaten/spieler/309400), a DFB-Pokal win over Alemannia Aachen and a Bundesliga victory against Paderborn.

Despite [only turning 20 this summer](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/kai-havertz/profil/spieler/309400), he has already played [more than 100 times for Leverkusen](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/kai-havertz/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/309400) and won [three senior caps for Germany](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/kai-havertz/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/309400).

If Liverpool were to follow up their initial interest in Havertz with a serious bid next year, it would represent a change of approach from this summer’s modest transfer window.

The Reds’ only additions to the squad since the end of last season were teenagers [Sepp van den Berg](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/48755456) and [Harvey Elliott](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/first-team/358354-liverpool-fc-confirm-signing-of-harvey-elliott), along with out of contract goalkeepers [Adrian](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/first-team/359359-liverpool-fc-complete-signing-of-goalkeeper-adrian) and [Andy Lonergan](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/first-team/360357-andy-lonergan-liverpool-signing-contract-jurgen-klopp).

These Liverpool fans on Twitter were not getting their hopes up about the speculation surrounding Havertz:
