# Liverpool: Fans not impressed at claims Ben White could be summer target

**Many Liverpool fans reacted in frustration after a claim emerged regarding the Reds’ [long-term](https://talksport.com/football/777615/liverpool-brighton-ben-white-virgil-van-dijk-injury-50m/) links with Brighton defender Ben White.**

According to the [Liverpool Echo](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/liverpool-transfer-news-ben-white-19609344), the Anfield recruitment team, led by Michael Edwards, are focusing on dealings next summer as they will have a better idea of their financial position, with the 23-year-old centre-back on their radar.

With a huge game against Premier League leaders Manchester United coming up this weekend, there is a risk that, yet again, manager Jurgen Klopp will have no centre-backs to select.

Both Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez have been ruled out for a significant amount of time due to [serious knee injuries](https://talksport.com/football/787753/joe-gomez-knee-injury-liverpool-jurgen-klopp-virgil-van-dijk/). Along with this, there are [doubts](https://twitter.com/dmlynch/status/1349373675770957824) that Joel Matip will be fit in time after picking up a knock to his adductor.

Both Fabinho and Jordan Henderson, naturally midfielders, filled in at the heart of Liverpool’s defence during their [1-0](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/55463017) defeat against Southampton in their last league encounter.

Because of this claim, supporters were fuming. Not just because of the fact that the Reds are allegedly prepared to wait until the summer, but White’s [£50m price tag](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-8867299/Liverpool-pay-50m-Brighton-defender-Ben-White-January.html) ruffled their feathers on [social media](https://twitter.com/ptgorst/status/1349365200932241415).
