The Dutch defender is set to go up against both Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo for the award, and the Reds, as you will see from the tweets below, are not at all surprised to see their impressive stopper put forward for the prestigious individual award.

Van Dijk, in 2019 so far, has been a colossus. So far in the calendar year, the centre-back has scored six goals in all competitions as well as contributing towards 13 clean sheets for Liverpool, [Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/virgil-van-dijk/leistungsdaten/spieler/139208/plus/0?saison=2018), more than earning his spot as one of the three nominees for the award.

The Kopites are not all shocked by van Dijk’s nomination and will surely be desperate for their man to beat out Ronaldo and Messi to claim the honour.
