# Liverpool: Fans plead their case for Jordan Henderson to win Player of the Year after 4-0 win over Southampton

**Plenty of Liverpool fans have been making the case for Jordan Henderson to be in the frame for PFA Player of the Year as the Reds opened a [22-point lead](https://www.premierleague.com/tables?co=1&se=210&ha=-1) at the summit of the Premier League today.**

The Reds captain made his mark on the 4-0 win over Southampton at Anfield, scoring the home side’s second goal and providing the assist for Mohamed Salah’s first of the afternoon as Liverpool racked up a 20th successive home win in the Premier League. \[[via Sky Sports](https://www.skysports.com/football/liverpool-vs-soton/408225)\]

Henderson has [faced his share of criticism](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/jordan-henderson-criticism-annoys-liverpool-16385245) in the past at Anfield but was [lauded by Jurgen Klopp after the recent win over Wolves](https://www.independent.ie/sport/soccer/klopp-praises-outstanding-liverpool-skipper-henderson-after-victory-at-wolves-38891176.html?token=1519680943) and now has two goals in his last three league outings, having [also scored at Molineux on January 23rd](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jordan-henderson/leistungsdaten/spieler/61651).

The 29-year-old showcased his ability with and without the ball against the Saints by playing two key passes in addition to his goal, while also making three interceptions (as per [SofaScore](https://www.sofascore.com/southampton-liverpool/UsV)). Alex Smith of [The Mirror](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/liverpool-ratings-vs-southampton-roberto-21410160) wrote: “Those calls to name his player of the season are just going to grow louder and louder”, adding that he received a standing ovation upon his [late withdrawal for Adam Lallana](https://www.skysports.com/football/liverpool-vs-soton/teams/408225).

These Liverpool fans on Twitter want to see Henderson being recognised with individual honours later his season, with one supporter lauding his performances as “unreal”:

> Jordan Henderson better win player of the year. I'm not even joking. The blokes playing out of his skin.
