# Liverpool: Fans plead with Anfield club to replace Joel Matip

**Many [Liverpool](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/premier-league/liverpool/) fans once again appealed to the club to sell defender Joel [Matip](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/liverpool-fc-news/exclusive-joel-matip-could-miss-the-rest-of-the-season-due-to-serious-groin-injury/) after he was ruled out for three weeks.**

Speaking after the Reds’ [0-0](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/55420341) draw against Newcastle United before the New Year, manager Jurgen Klopp confirmed (via [Paul Joyce](https://twitter.com/fst4all/status/1344535270545371139)) that the Cameroonian centre-back will miss the next couple of games after picking up an adductor injury.

The 29-year-old has missed a total of [60](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/joel-matip/verletzungen/spieler/82105) games since his free transfer from Bundesliga side Schalke and has picked up six different fitness setbacks, not including his latest one ([TransferMarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/joel-matip/verletzungen/spieler/82105)).

This leaves his boss with no established centre-backs available for selection, having not replaced [Dejan Lovren](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/53556646) in the summer, who left Anfield to join Zenit St Petersburg.

While Fabinho is flourishing at centre-back, it is a really troublesome predicament for the champions to find themselves in.

As a result, supporters ran out of patience with Matip and urged the club to sign a defender this month.
