# Liverpool: Fans praise Kevin De Bruyne after Man City midfielder named Premier League Player of the Season

**A number of Liverpool fans have hailed Kevin De Bruyne as a deserving winner of the Premier League Player of the Season.**

[Sky Sports](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11679/12049266/kevin-de-bruyne-wins-premier-league-player-of-the-season) reported that the 29-year-old Manchester City midfielder had scooped the prize ahead of Reds trio Jordan Henderson, Sadio Mane and Trent Alexander-Arnold, who had also been shortlisted, despite Pep Guardiola’s side finishing [18 points adrift of the champions](https://www.premierleague.com/tables?co=1&se=274&ha=-1) in 2019/20.

De Bruyne registered a mammoth 20 assists in the league last season, seven more than the next highest player on the list (Alexander-Arnold, as per [premierleague.com](https://www.premierleague.com/stats/top/players/goal_assist)), as well as [netting 13 goals](https://www.premierleague.com/stats/top/players/goals) in the division, including [one against Liverpool](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/spielbericht/index/spielbericht/3219180) in Man City’s 4-0 win at the start of July.

In 2017/18, when the Etihad Stadium outfit romped to the Premier League title with a [100-point haul](https://www.premierleague.com/tables?co=1&se=79&ha=-1), Reds winger Mohamed Salah was named [Player of the Season](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/43860354) after a [44-goal campaign](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/mohamed-salah/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/148455) which included [32 in the English top flight](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/mohamed-salah/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/148455).

These Liverpool fans on Twitter felt that the “outstanding” De Bruyne “has been immense” for City and was a worthy winner of the individual accolade, with some Reds critical of a report in [Manchester Evening News](https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/de-bruyne-liverpool-city-award-18777739) which claimed that Kopites were fuming over the Belgian’s recognition:

> Exactly this – De Bruyne has been immense once again, fantastic player.\
> Of course we'd like to see an [#LFC](https://twitter.com/hashtag/LFC?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw) player get it but nobody begrudges De Bruyne! [https://t.co/H0qy50byZ1](https://t.co/H0qy50byZ1)

> Totally agreed. He was outstanding in an odd year for City. Still glad Hendo won the writers award.

> Agree – what’s their agenda – KDB had an excellent season – was always going to be a tough ask but nobody can say that he wasn’t a deserving winner

> I’m a Liverpool fan for over 30yrs & would’ve loved one of our men won it but KDB is a special player who would fit in any team. Congratulations Kevin. YNWA
