# Liverpool: Fans question Joe Gomez starting at right-back against Bournemouth

**Liverpool fans questioned the decision from Jurgen Klopp to start Joe Gomez against Bournemouth in their Premier League clash.**

The 22-year-old [started](https://www.thisisanfield.com/2019/12/confirmed-liverpool-lineup-vs-bournemouth-gomez-and-keita-start/) on the right-hand side of the Reds’ defence on the South Coast before Dejan Lovren’s first-half injury forced a change from Jurgen Klopp, shifting Gomez back into the middle.

With his [preferred](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/joe-gomez/profil/spieler/256178) position being at the heart of the backline, Gomez also has the ability to play as a fullback on [both](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/joe-gomez/profil/spieler/256178) sides, making his debut back in [2015](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/33750574) playing left-back under former manager Brendan Rodgers.

Despite this, his development has seen him prosper in the centre back role, illustrating his [comfort](https://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/hes-the-best-in-the-world-and-deserves-the-ballon-dor-inside-van-/jaf12ea9r4ch1813tby6mr1r7) playing alongside Virgil van Dijk.
