# Liverpool: Fans question selection of Joe Gomez at right-back against Napoli

**Joe Gomez was selected to [start at right-back](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/liverpool-fc_ssc-napoli/index/spielbericht/3252227) for Liverpool in last night’s 1-1 draw at home to Napoli in the Champions League, with [regular first choice](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/trent-alexander-arnold/leistungsdaten/spieler/314353) Trent Alexander-Arnold [named among the substitutes](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/liverpool-fc_ssc-napoli/index/spielbericht/3252227).**

Gomez did not find a team-mate with [any of the five crosses](https://www.whoscored.com/Matches/1426942/LiveStatistics/Europe-UEFA-Champions-League-2019-2020-Liverpool-Napoli) that he attempted in the game against Napoli, while his performance drew unforgiving assessments from several reporters.

James Nalton of [This Is Anfield](https://www.thisisanfield.com/2019/11/liverpool-1-1-napoli-player-ratings/) wrote that he “didn’t look at all comfortable in the position” of right-back and “offered little in attack”, while [Sky Sports](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11669/11871963/liverpool-player-ratings-against-napoli-joe-gomez-and-mohamed-salah-struggle-as-reds-held)‘ Nick Wright felt that he did not offer as effective an attacking threat as Alexander-Arnold and said that he “did not provide defensive stability either, showing a lack of focus on several occasions”.
