# Liverpool: Fans are delighted as recent update points to Gini Wijnaldum contract extension

**Gini Wijnaldum’s suspected departure from Liverpool could be about to take a U-turn following recent contract talks.**

According to Sky Sports (relayed via [@LFCTransferRoom](https://twitter.com/LFCTransferRoom/status/1304134673136746501)), the midfielder has had a conversation with Jurgen Klopp over his future with the club. The discussion was reportedly a productive one and Wijnaldum is hoping a new offer will be tabled.

As it stands, the Dutchman will become a free agent next year upon the expiry of his current contract. However, Barcelona have shown serious interest in bringing him to Camp Nou. Ronald Koeman is an admirer of his and wants to be reunited with the 29-year-old.

However, this recent update could spell a contract extension instead which will see him snub the former Netherlands boss in order to remain at Anfield. The [£36million-valued](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/georginio-wijnaldum/profil/spieler/49499) ace joined the club back in 2016 and has since made 187 appearances, scoring 19 goals (via [Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/georginio-wijnaldum/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/49499)).

Lots of Liverpool fans are delighted with the promising update and are hoping the talks come to fruition. Comments such as ‘yes, yes, yes’ and ‘finally some good news’ have flooded the replies to the post.

After his valiant performance against Barcelona in the 2019 Champions League semi-final, it’s no wonder the Kopites are eager to see him stay.
