# Liverpool: Fans react sarcastically to impending short-term deal for Andy Lonergan

**Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is expecting 35-year-old goalkeeper Andy Lonergan to sign for the club on a short-term deal following the injury to Alisson in the Reds’ win over Norwich last Friday, as stated by the club’s official Twitter channel.**

Klopp told [LiverpoolFC.com](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/first-team/360305-alisson-becker-calf-injury-update-latest) that he expects Alisson to be sidelined for “[the next few weeks](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/first-team/360305-alisson-becker-calf-injury-update-latest)” after picking up a calf injury against Norwich at Anfield.

Adrian, who [replaced Alisson to make his club debut last Friday](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/adrian-makes-debut-after-liverpool-16732284), is likely to be Liverpool’s first choice goalkeeper in the Brazil international’s absence and, with [Caoimhin Kelleher and Vitezslav Jaros also nursing injuries](https://www.football365.com/news/liverpool-hand-lonergan-deal-after-injury-to-alisson), Liverpool have been left short on goalkeeping cover.

Lonergan, a free agent after being [released by Middlesbrough at the end of last season](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/48458657), has been training with the Reds in recent weeks and was part of the squad for their pre-season tour of USA, as reported by [LiverpoolFC.com](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/first-team/360357-andy-lonergan-liverpool-signing-contract-jurgen-klopp?utm_source=Social&utm_medium=TwitterWebsiteCards&utm_content=Digital&utm_campaign=LFCTwitterCards).

According to [LiverpoolFC.com](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/first-team/360357-andy-lonergan-liverpool-signing-contract-jurgen-klopp?utm_source=Social&utm_medium=TwitterWebsiteCards&utm_content=Digital&utm_campaign=LFCTwitterCards), Klopp is hoping to be able to name the veteran goalkeeper among the substitutes for the Champions League holders’ UEFA Super Cup meeting with Chelsea tomorrow night.

After a summer in which Liverpool spent just £1.7m in the transfer window, according to [Transfermarkt.com](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/fc-liverpool/transfers/verein/31), these Reds fans exercised some gallows humour in reacting to the news of Lonergan’s imminent signing:
