# Liverpool: Fans react to Emre Can’s omission from Juventus’ Champions League squad

**The 32 clubs involved in the group stage of the Champions League submitted their squads for the competition before [last night’s deadline](https://www.uefa.com/uefachampionsleague/news/newsid=2568290.html).**

Serie A champions Juventus were among those to submit their squad for the group stage, with Mario Mandzukic and Giorgio Chiellini among the players to miss out. ([via @juvefcdotcom](https://twitter.com/juvefcdotcom/status/1168947415539474432))

Former Liverpool midfielder Emre Can was also omitted from the list, as noted by Liverpool-focused Twitter channel [@AnfieldWatch](https://twitter.com/AnfieldWatch/status/1168948705766100999).

The 25-year-old [Germany international](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/emre-can/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/119296) spent four years at Anfield, scoring [14 goals in 167 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/emre-can/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/119296) for the Reds, before [leaving Merseyside to sign for Juventus last summer](https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/44419727).

Can rejected a new contract at Liverpool during the 2017/18 season, saying that he wanted to emulate childhood idol Zinedine Zidane by playing for Juventus, as reported by the [Liverpool Echo](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/emre-can-explains-left-liverpool-14885068).

However, having started only [22 Serie A and Champions League games](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/111212/History/Emre-Can) for the Turin club last season and played just [30 minutes in the league so far this term](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/emre-can/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/119296), he has struggled to make an impact in Italy.

These Liverpool fans on Twitter didn’t feel too sorry for Can being left out of his club’s Champions League squad:

> To be fair he wouldn’t be named in the Liverpool squad either! These players who think they are bigger than Liverpool soon learn and there is no turning back!
