# Liverpool: Fans react to Fabrizio Romano update on summer transfer plans

**Liverpool kicked off their summer spending on Friday with the [signing](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/first-team/435628-liverpool-agree-deal-to-sign-ibrahima-konate-from-rb-leipzig) of central defender Ibrahima Konate from Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig.**

The Reds activated a [£36m](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2021/may/28/liverpool-seal-36m-deal-for-rb-leipzig-defender-ibrahima-konate#:~:text=Ibrahima%20Konat%C3%A9%20has%20agreed%20to,his%20contract%20with%20RB%20Leipzig.) release clause to land the French Under-21 international, but there may be other important areas to address as Jurgen Klopp’s side look to regain their Premier League crown from Manchester City after needing a [late rally](https://www.skysports.com/liverpool-results) to secure a [third-placed finish](https://www.skysports.com/football/liverpool-vs-crystal-palace/429212) this time around.

With Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane set for Africa Cup of Nations duty in the New Year, the Reds might need another high-quality forward option to ensure that their title bid doesn’t stutter in the absence of their [two top scorers from 2020/21](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/teams/liverpool/top-scorers).

With Georginio Wijnaldum [poised to leave](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11833/12319169/barcelona-confident-of-signing-sergio-aguero-and-georginio-wijnaldum-on-free-transfers) as he approaches the end of his contract at Anfield, another midfield signing may be needed to guard against a succession of injuries.

Transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano was asked on Twitter if more additions were on the way after Konate’s arrival at Liverpool and he [replied](https://twitter.com/FabrizioRomano/status/1398261011426201611): “For sure… Liverpool will sign some players, don’t worry”.

His response sparked a frenzy of excitement from many Kopites on Twitter, with some wryly commenting that FSG could be set for a [rare summer spending spree](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/liverpool-transfer-spend-fsg-truth-19799643) amid [previous criticism from some fans](https://live4liverpool.com/2020/05/view-from-the-kop/liverpool-fans-lash-out-after-report-suggests-little-transfer-activity-this-summer/) for a conservative approach.
