# Liverpool: Fans don’t want Maddison at Anfield, despite Carragher’s comments

**Former Liverpool player Jamie Carragher has said that the club should try to sign Leicester midfielder James Maddison when the Premier League transfer window reopens.**

The [Liverpool Echo](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/jamie-carragher-outlines-liverpool-should-16782604) quoted Carragher’s comments on [Sky Sports](https://www.skysports.com/football), which were also relayed by Liverpool-focused Twitter channel [@AnfieldWatch](https://twitter.com/AnfieldWatch).

Carragher told [Sky Sports](https://www.skysports.com/football) \[[via Liverpool Echo](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/jamie-carragher-outlines-liverpool-should-16782604)\]: “I think he is the one player outside of the top six who Liverpool should be looking at.

“People have been talking about \[Philippe\] Coutinho coming back, but obviously that hasn’t happened as he has gone to Bayern Munich, but if you are looking in the Premier League, yes he will cost a lot of money, but he should be the one Liverpool are looking at if you are going to that next step up.”

Maddison joined Leicester a year ago from Norwich in a deal worth around £20m, according to [BBC](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/44553234), and ended his first season at the King Power Stadium with [seven goals and seven assists from 38 appearances in total](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/james-maddison/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/294057).

His corner led to the Foxes’ equaliser against Chelsea on Sunday, with Wilfred Ndidi’s header earning a point in a 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge. \[[via Sky Sports](https://www.skysports.com/football/chelsea-vs-leicester/407994)\]

However, these Liverpool fans on Twitter didn’t share Carragher’s view that the 22-year-old midfielder should be a transfer target for the Reds, with one supporter even referring to him as a “glorified \[Harry\] Wilson”:

> adam lallana was better player than him ,when we brought from southampton when he was selected for PFA team of the year. there is no way liverpool signing him because leicester city will demand 80-90m for him, kai havertz is better option if liverpool are ready to pay 80-90m.

> Like most have said it’s probably better to look in house or abroad because teams always get held hostage for higher fees. Look at Maguire to United. They’ll demand 75m+ when there are better players out there for that sort of money. I still think he’s just a glorified Wilson

> Bad news is leicester would want way way too much for us to even consider a bid.

> Imo he will be on the market for 80-100mill in the summer.

> Carragher also said we should’ve signed Joe Hart two seasons ago. Shocking judge.
