# Liverpool: Fans react to Nabil Fekir’s claims about unfulfilled move to Anfield

**France attacking midfielder Nabil Fekir came close to joining Liverpool in 2018 before the move fell through and he has since [left Lyon for Real Betis](https://www.realbetisbalompie.es/noticias/primer-equipo/nabil-fekir-nuevo-jugador-del-real-betis-22631).**

The Reds were on the verge of agreeing a £52.75m deal for the player, as reported by [BBC](https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/44407585), before pulling out of the move because of concerns about a sustained knee injury, according to [The Telegraph](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2018/06/09/nabil-fekir-liverpool-53m-deal-cancelled-lyon-confirm-midfielder/).

This week, the 26-year-old told [L’Equipe](https://www.lequipe.fr/Football/Article/Nabil-fekir-ex-ol-ca-m-a-fait-du-mal/1057463) that “[lies were told](https://www.lequipe.fr/Football/Article/Nabil-fekir-ex-ol-ca-m-a-fait-du-mal/1057463)” and “[an excuse needed to be found](https://www.lequipe.fr/Football/Article/Nabil-fekir-ex-ol-ca-m-a-fait-du-mal/1057463)” about the botched transfer, with [@AnfieldWatch](https://twitter.com/AnfieldWatch/status/1171521223752372224) relaying the story to its Twitter followers.

According to [L’Equipe](https://www.lequipe.fr/Football/Article/Nabil-fekir-ex-ol-ca-m-a-fait-du-mal/1057463), Fekir said that he had gone for a medical check-up at France’s training base in Clairefontaine and no concerns were raised about his knee, adding that he had undergone a medical at Liverpool before the move collapsed.

Liverpool instead signed [Alisson for £66.9m](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2018/jul/18/liverpool-increase-alisson-offer-and-close-on-world-record-deal) and [Xherdan Shaqiri for £13.5m](https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/liverpool-confirm-xherdan-shaqiri-signing-as-swiss-international-pens-fiveyear-deal-a3880576.html) after the planned Fekir deal ended.

These Reds fans on Twitter feel that the club ultimately made the right decision not to sign the [France international](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/nabil-fekir/profil/spieler/203496):

> A Brazilian god called Allison. We wouldn't have signed both of them. Got the right player.
