The Reds’ former No. 10 decided to leave Anfield in [January 2018](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/42580173) after five seasons at the club, following his [£8.5m](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/21266402) move from Inter Milan.

Coutinho was a major figure with the Merseysiders but angered the Kop faithful in the manner of his departure.

He managed to score [54](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/philippe-coutinho/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/80444) goals and provided [45](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/philippe-coutinho/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/80444) assists in 201 appearances before he left for [£142m](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/42580173), while the Reds used the funds to bring in [Virgil van Dijk](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/42496637) and [Alisson Becker](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11669/11441825/liverpool-sign-alisson-from-roma-in-record-deal-for-a-goalkeeper) respectively.

The Brazil international [struggled](https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2815791-philippe-coutinho-the-struggles-of-barcelonas-record-signing) at the Nou Camp and his former side knocked the Catalan giants out of the Champions League after they were [3-0](https://www.skysports.com/football/liverpool-vs-barcelona/406466) up in the first leg. Indeed, he was [booed](https://talksport.com/football/539293/liverpool-barcelona-anfield-boos-luis-suarez-philippe-coutinho/) upon his return to Anfield during last season’s famous comeback.

As a result, he moved to Bayern Munich on a [season-long loan](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/49392631), where he has currently managed seven goals and seven assists, as per [TransferMarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/philippe-coutinho/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/80444).

Supporters were quick to point out how wise their club was and what a foolish decision the Brazilian made by choosing to move to Spain.

> Funny that Barca’s most expensive buy is not even at their club but out on loan. Lfc were too smart to not hold on for PC.
