# Liverpool: Fans respond as Philippe Coutinho transfer links are shut down

**It seems that hopes of a shock Liverpool return for Philippe Coutinho will never truly die but, for now, talks have been shut down over a summer move.**

It has been reported that Barcelona are eager to get the Brazilian off their books and have allegedly lowered their asking price for his services. According to Spanish outlet Sport (via [Metro](https://metro.co.uk/2020/06/10/chelsea-barcelona-slash-philippe-coutinho-asking-price-player-exchange-12831528/)), the La Liga giants are willing to slash Coutinho’s fee to a mere £44.5m, a fraction of the [mammoth £142m deal](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/42580173) they originally agreed with Liverpool in 2018.

Many Premier League sides have been linked to a move for the playmaker, including [Chelsea](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11668/11976926/philippe-coutinho-chelsea-offered-chance-to-sign-brazilian-by-barcelona) and possible favourites [Newcastle.](https://www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/football/philippe-coutinho-makes-transfer-decision-22077291]) The Reds were [loosely linked](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/philippe-coutinho-return-actually-makes-18068947) a few months ago but talks have since died. However, some Liverpool fans believe it’s not over until it’s over and maintain that they could still be in with a chance of bringing him back to Anfield.

> Coutinho back to Liverpool rumour doing the rounds today. Told that deal would be ‘IMPOSSIBLE’ in capital letters. Few colleagues wrote about his career being at a crossroads not so long ago. [https://t.co/HceXKrjwIP](https://t.co/HceXKrjwIP)

That was until The Athletic journalist [Simon Hughes debunked](https://twitter.com/Simon_Hughes__/status/1271076484439060480) any lingering hope. He tweeted that an Anfield return for Coutinho would be ‘impossible’ and many Kopites are responding to his update. Check out some of their reactions below:
