# Liverpool: Fans slam James Pearce after he tips Takumi Minamino to benefit from no Timo Werner

**[James Pearce believes](https://twitter.com/JamesPearceLFC/status/1275028548668084224) that Liverpool’s failure to sign Timo Werner could be beneficial for the growth of Takumi Minamino.**

In a recent feature for [The Athletic,](https://theathletic.com/1874064/2020/06/22/liverpool-minamino-werner-klopp-milner-lockdown-everton-1-1/) the LFC journalist has analysed Sunday’s Merseyside derby, including the former RB Salzburg man’s performance.

Minamino played just 45 minutes against Everton before being brought off for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. Despite earning a [Sofascore rating of 6.5,](https://www.sofascore.com/football/2020-06-21) Pearce thinks that the Japan international showcased his ability to “drift inside and operate in central areas”.

However, a lot of fans don’t agree with this take, particularly the notion of not signing Werner being a positive thing for the club. Of course, [Chelsea beat the Reds](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11668/12009479/timo-werner-chelsea-complete-signing-of-rb-leipzig-forward) to their man by securing a £54m deal for the German star.

One particularly angry Liverpool supporter has commented that anyone who thinks Minamino is good enough “is deluded”. Since his arrival in January, the 25-year-old has made just four Premier League appearances and hasn’t contributed to a goal in red yet (via [Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/takumi-minamino/leistungsdaten/spieler/165793)).

> Wasn’t last night a good example of the quality we need off the bench should be near to the Firmino, Salah quality rather than Origi and Minamino?
