# Liverpool: Fans slam Ronald Koeman after reportedly telling Georginio Wijnaldum not to sign new deal at Anfield

**A number of Liverpool fans hit out at Ronald Koeman after reports emerged that he told [Georginio Wijnaldum](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/liverpool-fc-transfer-rumours/liverpool-fans-want-wijnaldum-sold/) not to sign a new deal at Anfield.**

The Dutch midfielder is into the [final 12 months](https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/transfers/liverpool-thiago-alcantara-transfer-news-bayern-munich-contract-a9678516.html) of his Reds contract with [no sign of him extending his deal](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-8646529/Barcelona-boss-Ronald-Koeman-tells-Georginio-Wijnaldum-NOT-sign-new-Liverpool-contract.html) and [The Independent](https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/transfers/liverpool-thiago-alcantara-transfer-news-bayern-munich-contract-a9678516.html) reporting this week that he could be open to a move elsewhere.

Dutch media outlet [AD](https://www.ad.nl/buitenlands-voetbal/koeman-lonkt-naar-wijnaldum-als-bouwsteen-voor-wederopstanding-barca~a182cebe/?referrer=https://t.co/SCICKH0IEF?amp=1) claimed this week \[via [Daily Mail](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-8646529/Barcelona-boss-Ronald-Koeman-tells-Georginio-Wijnaldum-NOT-sign-new-Liverpool-contract.html)\] that Wijnaldum’s [former international manager](https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/transfers/liverpool-thiago-alcantara-transfer-news-bayern-munich-contract-a9678516.html) Koeman, who has just been appointed head coach at Barcelona, has told the 29-year-old not to sign a contract extension at Anfield, with the midfielder seemingly high on the manager’s wish-list.

In four years at Liverpool, Wijnaldum has scored [19 goals in 186 games](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/georginio-wijnaldum/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/49499/verein/31), including [two against Barcelona](https://www.si.com/soccer/2019/05/07/liverpool-barcelona-champions-league-video-highlights-messi-suarez-mane) in the epic 4-0 Champions League semi-final win last year. Koeman has previously managed the Reds’ local rivals Everton, who sacked him in October 2017 with the Toffees in the relegation zone after 16 months in the job (as per [BBC](https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/41683786)).

Barcelona have already dismissed two managers this year, sacking [Ernesto Valverde](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/fc-barcelona/mitarbeiterhistorie/verein/131) in January and giving [Quique Setien](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/fc-barcelona/mitarbeiterhistorie/verein/131) the boot last week after their 8-2 Champions League drubbing by Bayern Munich.

These Liverpool fans on Twitter slammed Koeman for his apparent interference in Wijnaldum’s Anfield future, with one Kopite calling him a “one and done coach” in what seems a dig at his [lack of longevity](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ronald-koeman/stationen/trainer/439) in any one role – Barcelona is his [11th job as a manager](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ronald-koeman/stationen/trainer/439):

> Koeman is a one and done coach- multiple candidates for Barca top leadership (election this year happening) have all stated a plan for Xavi will replace him inside 18 months so he better not make too many long term plans

> Koeman will be sacked well before ink drys on his 2 year “contract. And if Gini got any sense he’ll stay put…Either way I’m not bothered…

> Gini would be taking a backwards step and shouldn’t listen to Koeman. At 29 he’s at club ready to win trophies and Add to the ones he’s already won. Barcelona are in need of a rebuild and I wouldn’t be surprised in the slightest if Koeman is sacked come January. Clubs a shambles
