# Liverpool: Fans slam Joel Matip despite win over Crystal Palace

**A number of Liverpool supporters have lambasted Joel Matip’s below-par performance in the Reds’ [3-1 win](https://www.skysports.com/football/crystal-palace-vs-liverpool/446511) away to Crystal Palace.**

Jurgen Klopp’s men knew that victory was imperative at Selhurst Park on Sunday afternoon, following Manchester City’s 1-1 draw at Southampton the previous day.

Liverpool strode into a 2-0 lead thanks to first half goals from Virgil van Dijk and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain but they lost their way, allowing Odsonne Edouard to give Palace hope.

Fortunately, Fabinho was on-hand to fire home a late penalty to ease the nerves, meaning the Reds are now nine points behind City with a game in hand.

One player who really struggled at Palace was Matip, who looked all at sea for chunks of the match, losing the ball 15 times according to [Sofascore](https://www.sofascore.com/team/football/liverpool/44) and needing to be bailed out by Alisson after a sloppy pass left Michael Olise through on goal.
