# Liverpool: Fans stick by Trent Alexander-Arnold over ‘handball’ against Manchester City

**Liverpool fans have been[sticking](https://twitter.com/LFCFansCorner/status/1193569500689567744) by Trent Alexander-Arnold after a handball decision during his side’s [3-1](https://www.theguardian.com/football/live/2019/nov/10/liverpool-v-manchester-city-premier-league-live) win against Manchester City was waved away.**

Referee Michael Oliver did not believe that the visitors should have had a penalty in the fifth minute of the game. A City attack which saw the ball [ricochet](https://www.theguardian.com/football/live/2019/nov/10/liverpool-v-manchester-city-premier-league-live) off Bernardo Silva’s arm struck the England international’s hip and forearm inside the area.

As a result, Jurgen Klopp’s side went down the other end of the pitch and Fabinho hit a 25-yard strike which thrashed past Claudio Bravo in between the City sticks. A VAR check was carried out but the goal stood.

> Official VAR ruling:\
> The ball struck Bernardo’s hand first in the box – therefore not ruling a handball against Trent. No Penalty

Alexander-Arnold has come under [criticism](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/fans-fume-var-fails-spot-20855120) from Citizens’ fans and pundits after they believed that Pep Guardiola’s team should have been given a spot-kick, the 21-year-old admitted himself that he was [worried](https://metro.co.uk/2019/11/10/man-city-penalty-liverpool-trent-alexander-arnold-handball-says-former-premier-league-referee-11076329/) when the ball struck him.

Supporters leapt to the defence of the Champions League winner and made their feelings clear on social media.

Here you will find some of the best responses from Liverpool fans:

> Scary how blind the commentators are, var does well ans they still try ans force it was a penalty

> Yet the [@NBCSportsSoccer](https://twitter.com/NBCSportsSoccer?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw) crew says literally nothing about Bernardo’s handball in their discussion. If Sterling scores, it’s coming back b/c Bernardo would have passed it to him with his hand.

> Kompany just said on sky that Silva’s arm was natural position but Trent’s was not so should have been a pen, man is such a clown…
