# Liverpool: Fans unhappy with Reds’ defending in Merseyside derby

**Liverpool made it [14 wins out of 15](https://www.skysports.com/premier-league-table) in the Premier League this season with their Merseyside derby triumph on Wednesday night.**

Four first half goals left the Reds in a dominant position, with Divock Origi scoring twice, Xherdan Shaqiri netting on his [first start of the season](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/xherdan-shaqiri/leistungsdaten/spieler/86792) and Sadio Mane also on target. \[[via Sky Sports](https://www.skysports.com/football/liverpool-vs-everton/408129)\]

However, Liverpool’s defence was beaten twice by Everton in the opening 45 minutes, [first by Michael Keane to make it 2-1](https://www.skysports.com/football/liverpool-vs-everton/408129) and then by [Richarlison on the stroke of half-time](https://www.skysports.com/football/liverpool-vs-everton/408129) to leave the score at 4-2 going into the interval (as tweeted by [@LFC](https://twitter.com/LFC/status/1202333078498283520)).

While [Georginio Wijnaldum’s stoppage time goal](https://www.skysports.com/football/liverpool-vs-everton/408129) rounded off a 5-2 victory for the [Premier League leaders](https://www.skysports.com/premier-league-table), the concession of two goals again highlighted their problems at the back.

Liverpool’s [wait for a clean sheet at Anfield this season](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/fc-liverpool/spielplandatum/verein/31) goes on, while they [haven’t shut out a team in any competition since the end of September](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/fc-liverpool/spielplandatum/verein/31), and the Reds have now conceded [14 goals](https://www.skysports.com/premier-league-table) in the league already this term after letting in just [22 in the whole of 2018/19](https://www.skysports.com/premier-league-table/2018) in the division.

These Liverpool fans took to Twitter to voice their concerns about the team’s defending in the derby, with some yearning for the return of the [injured Joel Matip](https://www.premierinjuries.com/injury-table.php):

> I really miss Joel Matip you know

> Zero clean sheets at Home this season
>
> Brendan Rodgers as a Liverpool manager kept more clean sheets at this stage of the season aka 4/4 times 👍

> Four more please .. our defending has reverted back to 2013/14 !! Worrying the amount of goals we are leaking .. no lead feels 100% safe anymore !!
