Wijnaldum has arguably become a cult hero at Anfield after some of the crucial performances he has contributed to his team. The 29-year-old’s [brace against Barcelona](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/48179167) at Anfield last season played a huge part in Liverpool’s Champions League success. His superb display helped overturn a 3-0 first leg deficit in the semi-finals of the competition.

He also netted an important goal earlier on this season against Sheffield United, in what would have been a 0-0 draw without his 70th-minute strike (via [Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/spielbericht/index/spielbericht/3219070)).
