# Liverpool: Fans want to see more of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

**Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has said that midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will continue to improve following his performance against Newcastle on Saturday.**

Speaking to the club’s official website [liverpoolfc.com](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/first-team/364906-jurgen-klopp-oxlade-chamberlain-getting-better?utm_source=Social&utm_medium=TwitterWebsiteCards&utm_content=Digital&utm_campaign=LFCTwitterCards), Klopp praised the recent displays of the 26-year-old, who has [started three matches so far this season](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/alex-oxlade-chamberlain/leistungsdaten/spieler/143424), and Liverpool’s official Twitter channel [@LFC](https://twitter.com/LFC/status/1173643063782236160) shared some of the manager’s comments.

Oxlade-Chamberlain played just [19 minutes of first team football last season](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/alex-oxlade-chamberlain/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/143424) after coming back in April from a serious knee injury which kept him out of action for a year, as noted by [Goal.com](https://www.goal.com/en/news/oxlade-chamberlain-thankful-after-making-liverpool-return/1n0327j8ddczg14lgqjoyxicvc).

He has already has 252 minutes of game time this season and featured in all but one of Liverpool’s matches in 2019/20, getting a further 75 minutes under his belt against Newcastle at the weekend. \[[via TransferMarkt.co.uk](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/alex-oxlade-chamberlain/leistungsdaten/spieler/143424)\]

Some observers felt that his performance in that game was less than convincing, with Ian Doyle of the [Liverpool Echo](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/liverpool-player-ratings-newcastle-firmino-16919349) saying that he had a “[mixed bag first half](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/liverpool-player-ratings-newcastle-firmino-16919349)” against the Magpies.

If the [England midfielder](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/alex-oxlade-chamberlain/profil/spieler/143424) plays against Napoli tonight, it will be his [first Champions League appearance since the semi-final first leg against Roma in April 2018](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/alex-oxlade-chamberlain/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/143424/plus/0?saison=&verein=31&liga=&wettbewerb=CL&pos=&trainer_id=) in which he [picked up that year-long knee injury](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2018/apr/24/football-alex-oxlade-chamberlain-injury-world-cup-russia-liverpool-roma-champions-league).

These Liverpool fans on Twitter called for Oxlade-Chamberlain to continue featuring regularly for the Reds:

> It’s easy to see the rust in Ox’s game right now, but he showed a few glimpses of what we’ve missed.\
> A few more games like that and he’ll be bang on

> We lack a midfielder who isn’t afraid to sprint at the defenders, so glad to have Ox back. Those performances vs City.
