Transfer expert Dean Jones says that Brighton and Hove Albion central midfielder Moises Caicedo is still 'on Liverpool's radar' ahead of a potential move.

The Lowdown: Caicedo attracting interest

As per Sky Sports, Liverpool are interested in signing Caicedo in January, after they were impressed by him when he represented Ecuador at the FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

However, Chelsea are offering stiff competition for his signature, and Brighton do not want to sell him midway through the season.

Manchester United and Newcastle United are also reportedly eyeing up a move for Caicedo, who could cost between £60-70m.

The Latest: 'On Liverpool's radar'

Speaking to GiveMeSport, Jones says that Caicedo is still 'on Liverpool's radar', despite emerging interest from Newcastle among others:

“In terms of Caicedo, I would be aware that he’s also on Liverpool’s radar, which hasn’t been spoken about too much in recent times.

“It’s just one to keep in the back of our mind as he is linked to Newcastle.”

The Verdict: Bellingham alternative?

If the Reds are unable to sign Jude Bellingham, who they have been strongly linked with, then Caicedo would be a classy alternative.

Curtis Woodhouse has previously labelled him as 'outstanding', and claimed that he would be an 'excellent signing' at Anfield.

At Brighton, he has been their fourth-best performing player in the Premier League so far, with only Alexis Mac Allister in the squad beating his 3.1 tackles per match in the division (WhoScored).

Caicedo was also a standout performer at the World Cup, playing in every game in the group stage and even managing to get himself on the scoresheet (WhoScored), showing that he is more than capable of playing at the highest level.

His team-mates have lauded him as an 'exceptional player & character', and BBC journalist Raj Chohan has even claimed that his ceiling 'exceeds Wijnaldum’s'.

This is as big of a compliment that you can give to a Liverpool target, given Gini Wijnaldum's memorable spell at Anfield where he won both the Premier League and UEFA Champions League.

Nonetheless, Caicedo is clearly thought of very highly, and the 21-year-old would no doubt be a welcomed addition by the Reds.
