Liverpool: Media react to Darwin Nunez's 'class' goal vs Real Madrid - Liverpool News

Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez has been praised for his ‘class’ finish during the Champions League game vs Real Madrid by members of the media.

The Lowdown: Seven-goal thriller

The Reds were the hosts at Anfield for a European showdown on Tuesday night, as they suffered a 5-2 defeat to Carlo Ancelotti’s visitors in an epic seven-goal thriller under the lights.

The Uruguayan, however, produced one of the more positive moments for Jurgen Klopp when he gave the Premier League side the lead after just four minutes, finishing Mohamed Salah’s ball into the box with an unbelievably deft back-heel touch.

The Latest: Media react

Taking to Twitter, Sacha Pisani, a writer and stats expert, reacted to Nunez’s finish and couldn’t believe the quality of the technique, saying: “Darwin Nunez you cheeky boy! Class.”

Respected African football journalist Saddick Adams said the finish was “beautiful” while even talkSPORT’s Mark Goldbridge said: “Nunez. Told you he’d be a success. Gets in too many good positions not to be. Chance magnet.”

The Verdict: Impressive contribution

The Liverpool boss may have substituted Nunez on 64 minutes, but his contribution prior to leaving the field was certainly commendable.

The Merseyside forward was Klopp’s third-best-performing player on the night with a match rating of 6.7 (SofaScore).

The 6 foot 1 star also set a new club record, with his goal the quickest the Reds have ever scored at home in the Champions League in their history.

Liverpool will be hugely disappointed by last night’s result but Nunez being available despite being an injury doubt was a huge boost and he will be hoping to make the same kind of impact in the second leg.
