Liverpool fans have been reacting to the news that Real Madrid defender David Alaba won’t feature in the second leg of the Champions League on Wednesday.

The Lowdown: Alaba ruled out

The Reds suffered a 5-2 defeat to Carlo Ancelotti’s side at Anfield back in February and are now set to make the trip to the Bernabeu to complete the fixture in two days time.

Los Blancos have already received some early team news after it was confirmed that the 30-year-old has been ruled out of the game, though the news hasn’t been welcomed among Reds supporters.

The Latest: Liverpool fans react…

Taking to Twitter, Liverpool lovers suggested that it was a setback for Jurgen Klopp and his outfit not to have to face Alaba given his performance in the first leg. They said:

They looked worse when he was playing! Major blow for LFC.” - @SmthQA

Advantage Real.” - @salahudeen2003_

Bad news for us.” - @chaliefineman

Won't make a difference, the tie is over.” - @CathalRobinson

It doesn't change anything. We should focus on ourselves.” - @bla_pohpe

They were worse with him.” - @JamieOwen2003

The Verdict: Focus on the PL

Liverpool have a three-goal deficit to overcome, which isn’t impossible when you consider Barcelona in 2019, but focusing on the Premier League at this stage could be more important.

The Merseysiders are currently six points outside the top four so it’s vital they focus on securing a Champions League place for next season if they want to set themselves up for success in 2023/24.
