Former Premier League striker Dean Windass has responded to claims that Liverpool could sign John McGinn this summer by questioning whether he’s good enough to get into Jurgen Klopp’s team.
With Gini Wijnaldum now gone and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s Liverpool future in doubt, the Reds are going to need to bolster their midfield department to mount a serious challenge to Manchester City.
Would Mbappe be a good signing for Liverpool?
McGinn impressed Klopp first-hand during Villa’s memorable 7-2 victory over Liverpool in October – scoring once and assisting once, two of his nine goal contributions in 37 appearances last season.
Despite needing a replacement for Dutchman Wijnaldum, Liverpool still have no less than seven players that can play in one of those three midfield positions, including the highly-rated Academy graduate Curtis Jones.
With that in mind, Windass was asked whether McGinn is could make the step up and play for Klopp’s team.
He exclusively told The Transfer Tavern:
“I don’t think so, I’m not saying he’s a bad player, but where is he going to play? You’ve got Thiago, you’ve got Henderson, you’ve got Fabinho, so I can’t see that happening.”
