There will be offers for Liverpool centre-back Joe Gomez during the summer transfer window, according to journalist James Pearce.

The Lowdown: Gomez shines against Forest

The 24-year-old may have struggled for game-time this season but he got an opportunity to shine against Nottingham Forest on Sunday evening.

Gomez took his chance impressively, producing arguably a Man of the Match performance at right-back as Liverpool won 1-0 and reached the FA Cup semi-finals.

It was a timely reminder of the Englishman's brilliance amid speculation surrounding his future in recent days.

The Latest: Offers expected this summer

Writing for The Athletic on Monday, Pearce stated his belief that there will be interest in Gomez this summer but urged the Reds to keep hold of him.

He claimed that there are 'bound to be offers for Joe Gomez this summer' considering the 24-year-old's skill set and lack of game-time at Liverpool, but he also urged the club's FSG ownership to retain the defender's services given that he has 'so much to offer' in terms of positional versatility.

The Verdict: Don't let him leave

Gomez might have fallen down the pecking order at Liverpool, but ultimately that is through no fault of his own, with serious injury problems often holding him back.

It is easy to forget that he was Virgil van Dijk's undisputed first-choice defensive partner during chunks of the Premier League title-winning season, and at just 24, he still has so much to offer, as Pearce has said.

It would be a crying shame to see Gomez shipped off in the summer - Jurgen Klopp has called him 'sensational' in the past - with the £85,ooo-per-week England international still having the potential to be a future regular at Anfield again, especially if he gets an opportunity with injuries or a team-mate's loss of form.
