Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has confirmed a seismic boost as a trio of players returned to full training, one of whom’s return was praised as ‘huge‘ earlier this week.
Klopp delivers early Christmas present
The Reds have been hit with a devastating number of fitness setbacks during the 2020/21 campaign, with the likes of Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez ruled out for a significant amount of time due to serious knee injuries.
Despite this, Liverpool are still three points clear at the top of the Premier League table as they look to retain their domestic crown that was captured last season for the first time in 30 years.
Speaking before his side’s trip to Crystal Palace this weekend (via DaveOCKOP), Klopp confirmed that James Milner, Xherdan Shaqiri and Thiago Alcantara will all return to first-team training next week.
All three players have been struggling with their own respective issues this season. Their return will give the German tactician more options in the midfield and the chance to rotate if necessary.
This is great news for Liverpool fans. On their day, each of these individuals can change any game, whether it’s defensively or from an attacking point of view.
With this in mind, Klopp could be tempted in resting the likes of Georginio Wijnaldum and Curtis Jones, who have been involved for much of the Christmas period so far.
Thiago in particular is a massive boost – the midfielder was just named as one of the three best in the world by making FIFA’s ‘The Best XI’. Pundit Kevin Campbell said earlier this week that the Spaniard’s return is ‘huge’ for the Reds, so fans will no doubt be delighted now that Klopp has confirmed this massive boost.
