The Lowdown: Talks stalled
Jurgen Klopp’s side have been linked with a swap deal involving Keita and Inter Milan midfield Marcelo Brozovic this month, so it will be interesting to see how the next week goes.
The Latest: ‘Nothing advanced’
Speaking to GiveMeSport, Romano says that there is ‘nothing advanced’ in terms of Keita and a potential new deal, but he has issued a ‘let’s see’ claim:
“I think there are chances for him to leave on a free. From what I’m told, at the moment, there is nothing advanced between Liverpool and Naby Keita. So let’s see if Liverpool will maybe change their mind. That’s happened with [N’Golo] Kante and Chelsea.
“Kante and Chelsea was really complicated in November and December and now they’re back to discussing a new deal, so let’s see if Liverpool will do something like that.”
The Verdict: Cash in
Unfortunately for Keita, his constant injury problems has meant that he has not been available enough since he moved to Anfield, and has only been able to make nine senior appearances in total across all competitions so far this term.
On £120,000-per-week, he is costing the Merseyside club a lot of money in wages too, and this next week provides the only opportunity to get a transfer fee for him, assuming that he does not sign a new contract.
