Liverpool journalist David Lynch has dropped a fresh injury concern involving Naby Keita after he was left out of their Champions League squad.

The Lowdown: Squad revealed

UEFA have revealed the Reds' official 24-man squad for the upcoming Champions League group stage on their official website, with some notable absentees.

Both Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain miss out, with both players on the treatment table at the moment with respective muscle and thigh injuries.

The Latest: Keita concern

Taking to Twitter after the squad was announced, Lynch has suggested that Keita's latest injury is a long-term issue, given that the group stage would take Liverpool Jurgen Klopp's side to November, shortly before the World Cup starts in Qatar.

He tweeted: "Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita have been omitted from Liverpool’s Champions League squad, according to UEFA’s website. Suggests that Keita’s latest injury is not a short-term issue."

The Verdict: Enough chances

Keita has had more than enough chances to prove his fitness during his time at Anfield, but he never seems to be able to get a consistent run of games together, and has had far too many injury problems.

Given their strong links to the signing of England international Jude Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund next summer, the time has come for the Reds to part ways with Keita, and they should be looking to try to find a buyer in the January transfer window.

Nonetheless, his omission from the Champions League squad suggests that he is going to be sidelined until after the World Cup finishes anyway, so if he can build up his fitness until then, clubs may not be as resistant to take him off Liverpool's hands.
