Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain won't be moving to Aston Villa during the summer transfer window, BBC journalist Phil McNulty has confirmed.

The Lowdown: Ox's future

The Englishman has found himself as a fringe player at Anfield the more time has gone on, with Jurgen Klopp not considering him a key starter - he hasn't been seen on the pitch for a single minute since March.

For that reason, Oxlade-Chamberlain's Liverpool future has been up in the air in recent months, especially with his current deal expiring next summer and apparent interest from Villa Park.

It suddenly looks as though he could still be staying put, however, following a fresh update.

The Latest: Villa move laughed off

Taking to Twitter, BBC Sport's McNulty claimed that Oxlade-Chamberlain wouldn't be joining Steven Gerrard's Villa side in the coming months:

"Aston Villa will not be making any move to sign Liverpool's Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and their position on Luis Suarez remains unchanged. No move planned."

The Verdict: More likely to stay

Having looked likely to leave originally, it now feels as though Liverpool are going to retain Oxlade-Chamberlain's services for at least one more year, perhaps allowing his contract to tick down before losing him on a free transfer.

When fully fit, the 28-year-old remains a good squad option for the Reds, with the former Arsenal man offering a little more goal threat and dynamism than the other midfielders. Seventeen goals and 15 assists is a solid return during his four years at the club given the amount of injuries he has suffered during that time.

The former England star would have to accept that he is again going to play a bit-part role next season, however, should he want to stay put at Anfield.
