Reported Liverpool transfer target Sofyan Amrabat is "the most likely" midfield signing for the Reds during the upcoming January transfer window, according to journalist Graeme Bailey.

The Lowdown: Liverpool linked with Amrabat

The Merseyside club have been linked with a move for the Fiorentina midfielder in recent days following his efforts for Morocco in the World Cup.

The Reds have also been linked with two other midfielders who have been performing on the big stage in Qatar - Jude Bellingham and Enzo Fernandez.

With the January transfer window fast approaching, one claim has emerged regarding who the Anfield club are most likely to sign in the coming weeks.

The Latest: Liverpool likely to land Amrabat

Speaking to TEAMtalk, Bailey discussed Liverpool and the likelihood of them signing a midfielder in January.

He said: "Enzo Fernandez and Jude Bellingham are very much on Liverpool’s radar. But a January deal is not on the cards for either of them. Work on both of those is likely to continue – but nothing is decided yet.

"The most likely option for January at this point looks like being Sofyan Amrabat. Fiorentina have said they are not looking to sell. But that is not what his agents are saying as they are making it clear they believe something is achievable.

"Amrabat is a player that Liverpool have been well aware of for some time. And he ticks a lot of boxes, especially for January. He really is one to keep an eye [on] as there are others, including Tottenham and Atletico Madrid, who also like him."

The Verdict: A good option for Liverpool

Across 13 Serie A appearances this season, Amrabat has made more progressive passes (64) than any other player at Fiorentina.

In addition, only four players at the Stadio Artemio Franchi have made more recoveries than the Moroccan (59), while just four of his team-mates with a higher combined total of tackles and interceptions that him (26).

Having shown how capable he is on the ball and also out of possession, we feel that the 26-year-old would be a good option for Liverpool to try and sign in January, and then potentially look at Bellingham and Fernandez in the summer.
