Former England international Carlton Palmer has reacted to the injury that Liverpool midfielder James Milner suffered during in their 1-1 away draw in the Premier League last weekend.
Speaking exclusively to Football FanCast, the former West Brom, Leeds United and Southampton player said that the 34-year-old is a “big loss” ahead of the Reds’ clash against Wolves in the top flight later this evening, as he claimed that he is a “very versatile player” who can play in a number of different roles for Jurgen Klopp’s team. Milner picked up the injury at Brighton and looks set to be out of action for a few more games, at least.
Is Milner an important player for Liverpool?
Milner is Klopp’s dream
Milner is Klopp’s dream, as he can fill in in a wide range of positions when the German boss is short in a particular area.
Just in the 2020/21 term alone, the former Newcastle United, Aston Villa and Manchester City ace has played at right-back, in the centre of midfield and at left-back too (Transfermarkt).
At his age, given the numerous accolades that he has won over his footballing career so far, Milner can only be seen as a “sensational” professional, one who leads by example both on and off of the pitch for the Anfield faithful.
Thus, losing him for the game against Nuno Espirito Santo’s side could be a “massive blow” as Palmer puts it, as the Reds search for the three points that could put them to the top of the EPL table, depending on results elsewhere.
