Liverpool closing in on €100m German ace, player keen on move - Liverpool News

Liverpool are closing in on the signing of Bayer Leverkusen ace Florian Wirtz, after submitting their first official bid in excess of €100m for the player according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano.

Romano broke the news via his official X account, reporting that club to club negotiations are underway and that Wirtz has informed Leverkusen that he “only wants” Liverpool. This adds another chapter to what has become a bit of a transfer saga for the player’s signature.

Wirtz is highly sought after following an impressive stint with Leverkusen, and earlier this year admitted to being honored by links to Europe’s elite and tempted to move away from his comfort zone. Strong links to Bundesliga rivals Bayern Munich as well as Man City began to emerge with the latter particularly keen to replace the outgoing Kevin De Bruyne.

News of Wirtz and his family traveling to the north west of England to meet with City officials was widespread, with Sky Sports reporting that a verbal agreement between the two clubs was in place. That proved to be premature however, as City would later exit the race for Wirtz.

ESPN reported that club officials at City believed the financial outlay required for the deal was unworkable and that the player was destined for a move to Bayern Munich instead.

Liverpool to add Wirtz

It now appears that Liverpool have swooped in somewhat undetected. Liverpool last week made contact with the player’s representatives, with reports circling of Wirtz already house hunting in Liverpool. Things have now progressed with an official bid and the Reds are seemingly close to getting their man.

Wirtz could be set for a quick reunion with Bayer Leverkusen teammate Jeremie Frimpong, who has already agreed to join Liverpool next season. In fact, Wirtz could become one of three new signings already in place for Liverpool this summer, with the club having also made progress on a deal for exciting Bournemouth starlet Milos Kerkez.

Liverpool are expected to invest heavily this summer as they launch a title defense. The Reds are also said to be on the market for a striker, with Darwin Nunez expected to depart the club this summer.
