Liverpool are willing to match any offer in order to sign Argentina’s World Cup finalist Enzo Fernandez, according to reports.

The Lowdown: Liverpool’s desperation

It's no surprise Jurgen Klopp seems desperate to prise Fernandez from the clutches of Benfica.

The 21-year-old was already enduring a stellar season with the Lisbon-based giants and has transitioned that nicely into the uniquely placed World Cup tournament, in which he has shone as one of his nation's top three players, according to FOTMOB.

Even at his tender age, the defensive-minded midfielder is the string-puller for Benfica, averaging a staggering 96.4 accurate passes per 90 and, given his efforts on the World stage, Liverpool are now happy to take the plunge and lure the star to Anfield.

The Latest: Liverpool’s to lose

According to a report from major newspaper O Jogo, via SportWitness, Liverpool have a pre-agreement with the player’s entourage and have vowed to match any proposal from elsewhere.

The report even states that Fernandez is “already in Liverpool’s hands” with the Argentine maestro said to leaning towards Anfield over other options.

It is said that Benfica will require a fee to the tune of €120m (£103m) in order to sanction a winter transfer, though it is more likely that the star will move in the summer.

The Verdict: Real intent

For Liverpool to be so willing in signing the former River Plate man speaks volumes of how impressed they have been this tournament.

Argentina’s success in reaching the final will have helped massively, but you cannot take anything away from Fernandez’s already outstanding performances for Benfica - in what is his debut campaign for the LIGA NOS side.

The Reds clearly understand the level of potential that Fernandez possesses and are willing to match any price in what is a real sign of intent from the hierarchy.
