The Lowdown: Jones profiled
The 21-year-old has worked his way up through the ranks at Anfield, but despite making several cup and temporary top-flight appearances, hasn’t managed to fully establish himself as a regular starter in the Premier League.
The youngster was rewarded with fresh terms just last week when he put pen to paper on a new deal that runs until 2027, and it now sounds like Jurgen Klopp is ready to present him with the golden opportunity he’s been looking for.
The Latest: Jones receives Klopp backing
Taking to Twitter, Doyle simply made the opening remark:
“Some #LFC fans won’t like this, but they’re going to have to go along with it. Jurgen Klopp has plans…”
Expanding in his column for the Liverpool Echo, the reporter revealed that Jones will be ‘given opportunities’ upon the return of domestic action, ‘starting’ with the Carabao Cup fixture against Manchester City.
Any Reds players who haven’t travelled to Qatar are also likely to receive more game time, though for Jones specifically, it’s time to ‘start showing his true self’.
The Verdict: Time to shine
Liverpool suffered a midfield injury crisis earlier in the season which Jones could have used to force his way into the team, but after making just one league start this term, it’s clear that he’s got to show more.
The Merseyside maestro is more than capable of turning it on having provided ten assists and scored eight goals since his senior step-up, but this has been lacking of late.
FSG are targeting a blockbuster central signing in the winter market, so it’s important that Jones makes an impression between now and then or risk being frozen out for the foreseeable.
