Andy Robertson has dedicated Liverpool’s first ever Premier League title to the 96 victims of the 1989 Hillsborough disaster.
After an exhilarating match against Chelsea at Anfield, Liverpool walked out onto the pitch once more to celebrate their league success. In a chillingly apt scenario, the Reds lifted the trophy after their 5-3 win over the Blues put them on 96 points for the season.
Is Andy Robertson Liverpool's best left-back of all time?
A lot of fans have picked up on this and the players have also noted the significance. Robertson has uploaded a phenomenal photo of the whole Liverpool teams celebrating in front of pyros and a downpour of red confetti. The £57.6million-valued Scot accompanied his post with the caption: “It feels fitting for the 96 at Hillsborough we’re lifting this trophy on 96 points. This is for you.”
One Kopite has commented saying Robertson is an ‘absolute class act’ for his gesture whilst another has praised him and admitted they ‘didn’t even realise this’ amongst all the festivities.
