Many Liverpool fans were heavily critical of midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain during their side’s 1-0 defeat to Burnley on Thursday night.
The scrutiny of the 27-year-old began with The Athletic journalist James Pearce, who was seriously concerned about his recent form, describing him as a “passenger.”
Per Sofascore, the former England international received the lowest match rating out of any Liverpool player with 6.4. He won just one ground duel, made no successful dribbles attempts and made no interceptions.
Oxlade-Chamberlain, who moved to Anfield from Arsenal in 2017 for £35m, has scored just 13 goals and provided 11 assists in 92 appearances (TransferMarkt) – a period of his career that has been riddled with injuries.
Should Liverpool keep or sell Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain?
Unsurprisingly, supporters were not impressed with the Englishman, many echoing the comments made by Pearce and told @AnfieldWatch how increasingly concerned they were about his form.
Fans fume at Oxlade-Chamberlain
“He can’t even control the ball, that how bad a form he’s in”
“Never warmed up to ox and never really got behind us signing him for such an astronomical fee. He epitomises late Wenger era arsenal players…lots of promise but likes to be comfy and rest on their laurels. Don’t see how he improves us. First on the offload list for me.”
“Glad that someone finally points out Ox’s form.”
“I’m sorry but Ox isn’t good enough for me I was worried he’d start last night. In and out of the game far too often. Rarely impacts. Great lad and good servant but I think it’s time to move him on. Not picking on him as six or seven players are on bad form”
“I can’t see Ox getting back to his best. His injuries have ruined him. Looks to have totally lost his pace. I would loan him out for the rest of the season”
“Ox shouldn’t have started the match yesterday.. he isn’t playing well after his injury. TTA should be psyched”
