Many Liverpool fans have been slating defender Joel Matip once again after it was revealed he may not be fit to face Manchester United on Sunday.
According to the Mirror‘s David Maddock, the 29-year-old is running out of time to prove that he is fit enough to face their arch-rivals.
He added that the Cameroonian centre-back is only training in specifically-prepared sessions with the club’s physios, and is yet to train with the first-team with the clash just four days away.
This means that manager Jurgen Klopp could be, once again, without any established first-team defenders to choose from, with Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez ruled out for a significant amount of time due to serious knee injuries.
Should Liverpool sell Joel Matip?
Unsurprisingly, supporters were incensed with the update, and once again, urged Klopp to sign a centre-back in January.
Liverpool fans fume at Matip news
“We need to get rid and buy a proper centre half that doesn’t break every five minutes like a cheap plastic Christmas toy”
“Not bringing someone in will cost us big time. The fans deserve better.”
“Start Nat Phillips…Matip is too damn fragile”
“Be injured again in 2 weeks anyway. Buy a CB”
“Seems like we sabotage our own selves by not buying a defender. United have the momentum and we are out of form at the moment”
“And we’re not signing a defender. That’s just like giving up to this season.”
