Many Liverpool fans were not impressed with defender Trent Alexander-Arnold following their side’s 3-2 defeat against Manchester United on Sunday.
The Reds bowed out of the FA Cup at Old Trafford, despite Mohamed Salah scoring a brace to keep Jurgen Klopp’s side in the game. However, they were unable to prevent goals from Mason Greenwood, Marcus Rashford and substitute Bruno Rashford either side of half-time.
Alexander-Arnold has been criticised in recent weeks for his poor crossing, and this game was no exception to that.
Per Sofascore, the England international lost possession 28 times, only eight out of 18 passes were accurate and he completed no crosses from seven attempted.
Does Trent Alexander-Arnold need time out of the team?
With this in mind, this prompted yet another negative response from segments of the Kop faithful, with scrutiny becoming an unusually regular theme in Alexander-Arnold’s post-match analysis.
Fans fume at Alexander-Arnold
“Didn’t think I’d say this, but reckon Trent needs to be taken out of the firing line. Dunno what the issue is, whether physical or psychological. But his form is worrying. He needs to feel his place is under threat, just like Robbo does with Tsimikas. #LFC”
“It was better from Trent today but has anyone else noticed his tendency of late to cut backcrosses – to no one in particular. He did it with his first cross of the game today. Infuriating. #LFC”
“Trent wasn’t as bad as he’s been recently but he still wasn’t good enough. His lack of urgency in added time with sideways passes summed it all up. #LFC”
“Trent has been so poor this season. Only Firmino has been worse. #LFC @LFC”
“Trent can’t defend #LFC”
“Trent still playing like his girlfriend broke up with him”
