Many Liverpool fans reacted badly to the injury update that Jurgen Klopp provided regarding attacker Diogo Jota.
During his press conference for tonight’s Premier League clash against Burnley (via Paul Joyce), the German tactician confirmed that their £41m summer signing is still a “few weeks away” from returning on the back of a bruised knee that he picked up against FC Midtjylland.
Jota was in impressive form for the Reds before this incident took place, scoring nine goals in his first 17 appearances in all competitions, and he was even selected ahead of Roberto Firmino for some games. This would have been unheard of over the past two seasons.
His absence has been felt by the team, who have failed to score in their last three Premier League outings and have dropped nine points from their last four matches (Fotmob).
Liverpool assistant manager Pep Lijnders previously told the club’s official website that he was like a “pressing monster”, adding that his technical ability is at the same standard as the clubs’ usual formidable front three.
Do Liverpool miss Jota badly?
With this in mind, supporters were desperately disappointed to discover he will miss out on tonight’s game and Manchester United at the weekend, making their feelings clear via @PaulJoyce on Twitter.
Fans continue to mourn Jota’s absence
“Desperately need Jota fit”
“Calling it, Jota is out for the season. It’s gonna be another Thiago but worse”
“Weeks? We need him now”
“Oh Jota, miss him”
“Jota still a few weeks away. What a nightmare”
“That decision to play Jota in the CL gets more and more pathetic. Looks like it’ll be March until we see Jota”
